2of2 Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of paintings by artist Chrissy Cheung. Over Land is an exhibition featuring a series of paintings which reference landscapes. As a painter, Chrissy Cheung’s work falls in the vein of abstract expressionism. Although abstract as a general category, the paintings have layers of depth which reveal shapes that construct themselves into a scene. The title is a play in the relationship that Cheung has with the painting. As Cheung often paints with the canvas on the ground, she -the painter- is overtop and often creates an aerial or external position over the painting and therefore over the landscape. Cheung’s work has a sensibility that requires the viewer to contemplate over the compositions. She enjoys the relationship between colours and finds the combinations infinitely intriguing, these dynamics are necessary for movement within a piece. Chrissy K. Cheung graduated with a BFA from Concordia University in 2000. She has pursued her art throughout the years, participating in over 18 selected group shows and several solo exhibitions. Cheung completed an artist residency through the Banff Centre for the Arts in the Spring of 2005. Her work is found in corporate and private collections across Canada. |
