2 of 2 Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new paintings “Change Without Warning by Toronto based artist Melissa Espina, this will be Espina’s second solo exhibition at 2 of 2 Gallery.

Change Without Warning is an intuitive exploration inspired by a Celtic theory that states, in order for a new start to begin an ending must occur and that in every ending there comes a new beginning.

By reclaiming elements of original work, Espina creates a fresh adaptation that embraces both past and present. Working in a cyclical motion, she constructs her series simultaneously with no beginning or end. Her process demonstrates discovery of those transitions that lead to change.  Espina connects and reconnects with her work through large gestural movements, bold colours and the removal and reapplication of paint.

Change without warning not only reflects the ever existing foundation or undertone that cannot be masked. It is also about ones ability to embrace the unassumed future while identifying with the past.

Born 1985 in Toronto, Canada, Espina has a BFA from OCAD University where she completed her Thesis in Florence, Italy. She has exhibited her paintings in Europe and Canada, her paintings are included in a number of European and Canadian collections.
