2of 2 Gallery is pleased to present a solo
exhibition of sculpture by Toronto based artist Nitasha
McKnight. McKnight's work questions the reactions of disgust and discomfort to varied human forms. Trolling the encyclopedia of human anomalies, childhood photos and the depths of her own imagination, McKnight acts with a guttural and impulsive retort. The body is made abject, its frailties, mortality and abnormalities exposed and displayed, threatening the distinction between us and them. Evoking the grotesque, her figures maintain an innocence, some even a sense of play. Threaded with personal memory and raw with the human condition, McKnight's work transports the viewer to the side show in her head. Obsessed with the body, she enlists the vessel of a young child to deliver her message of the bitter sweet relationship between fear and desire, beauty and pity. These disturbing fantasies brought to life will do more than feed our fascination and flood us with fear. They will indulge our shameful curiosity and invite us to witness the veracity of the human body.
