2 of 2 Gallery
is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new
paintings by Toronto based artist Shaheer Zazai. Shaheer Zazai’s first show at 2 of 2 Galelry is about what the history of Afghanistan has witnessed, not another sympathy call for the misery but rather a window to the harsh realities of what lead to what the history has become. “This body of work is a step to opening the picture to a history that internally has bled itself, puncture after puncture. A step towards re-instating the country’s flag with a sincere presence of none other but the plain reality: Black that stands for the hardships, ignorance and lack of national freedom. Red is none other than the stream of blood that has served as the circulatory system and a lifeline to the dark history. One more color in the flag: Green, present after the black and red as a consolation that everything will be ok, it waves along with other two for peace, freedom and tranquility. Here: green is omitted, as peace didn’t exist for the country. There has been battles fought and won, hardship and war, a common image but none resulted in peace, none brought around a better time and none to build a true Afghan nation” Shaheer Zazai. Shaheer Zazai received his BFA from Ontario Collecge of Art and Design University (OCADU), 2010. He has been exhibiting his work since 2008. |
